About

Ann Peterson

Rather than documentation, I strive to create something entirely new.

By responding to the scene in front of me with all of my senses, an image can be created that is beyond representation. In a sense I am co-creating with my surroundings, noticing not only the visual but also sounds, smells, air, light, and energy. Traces of memory come into consciousness, and I am led by pure intuition. The camera becomes an extension of my mind and heart.

With a focus on being a present and mindful observer, I attempt to extract the essence of the experience. The movement with my camera is intentional; my shutter is open to move and change when light changes. Because living is a multi-layered experience, to create an image that represents what can be felt and seen at a specific moment, sometimes several layers are necessary to create the final image.

The intention is not to record but to translate and create anew. After using intuitive choices. While using the camera, instinctive choices are the guide during post-production. I surrender to the process and the flow of the creation, which most often is not a linear process.

By being completely liberated from the traditional rigid rules of image-making, I can freely express new ways to experience my surroundings. Reality is revealed to me as it is experienced and felt.

Art is not in the mechanics of the camera but in being aware of the motion and energy of the world.

Ann Peterson

Ann Peterson has thrived on opportunities to travel and explore with her camera. She founded MUNDO IMAGES in 2007, an eco-friendly greeting card company featuring her photographs. Her colorful, eco-friendly greeting cards are shipped to independent gift shops throughout North America.

Ann’s desire to interpret the world through photography and share her vision with others is her true passion. In addition to her cards, her photographs have been featured in several galleries in Buffalo, as well as Spain, Costa Rica and New England. As a member of the Buffalo Society of Artists, she participates in a variety of art exhibits and art festivals. Embracing non-traditional techniques such as intentional camera movement and multiple exposures has influenced Ann to continue her path of exploration and discovery, as she creates how a scene feels, rather than how it appears.
